Battery retrofit — get the most out of every solar kWh.
Add storage to your existing solar to push self-consumption above 80%, charge cheaply overnight, and keep the lights on when the grid drops. Works with most inverters — no need to start over.
- Retrofit to existing solar (any brand) or install stand-alone for cheap-tariff arbitrage.
- GivEnergy, Tesla Powerwall, Sungrow, Fox ESS — independent advice, not a single-brand pitch.
- Optional backup mode keeps your essentials running during outages.
- Home Energy Scotland interest-free loan eligible.
Why clients choose us for this
On Octopus Go, Intelligent or Cosy you can charge a battery overnight at ~8p/kWh and discharge during peak at 30p+. The battery often pays back on this alone — solar is a bonus.
Got a 2014 SolarEdge install? A 2019 Solis hybrid? An old SMA? We've retrofitted all of them. AC-coupled battery sits alongside, no rewiring of your existing PV.
EPS (Emergency Power Supply) keeps fridges, freezers, broadband and lighting going during a grid outage. Optional, but valuable — particularly for rural sites.
We install GivEnergy, Tesla Powerwall, Sungrow, Fox ESS, Sunsynk and more. The right battery depends on your tariff, usage and budget — not on what's on a installer's shelf.
We integrate with Octopus, Hypervolt, Zappi and Home Assistant where wanted, so the battery, solar and EV charger actually coordinate — not three apps fighting each other.
Most homes are happiest with 5–13 kWh. Bigger isn't better — over-sized batteries rarely cycle fully and the marginal kWh stops paying back. We'll show you the math.
How it works
Send a recent bill (and tell us your tariff) — we'll model break-even with and without a battery in 48 hours.
Look at your existing inverter, consumer unit, space for the battery and ideal location. Fixed quote on the spot.
Most retrofits are a one-day job. We commission the EPS backup circuit if specified and set up the monitoring app.
We'll help you switch to a time-of-use tariff (Octopus Go / Intelligent / Cosy) and tune the battery schedule for best returns.
Talk to a specialist
A real engineer — not a call-centre — will scope your project and come back with an indicative system size, cost range and payback within one working day.
Tell us your tariff and approx usage and we'll model two or three battery options with realistic paybacks.
Frequently asked
Will a battery save me money on its own (no solar)?+
Yes — if you can move to a time-of-use tariff like Octopus Go or Intelligent. Cheap overnight charging + peak discharge typically saves £300–500/yr on a 10kWh battery, before any solar.
Which battery should I get?+
Honest answer: depends on tariff, usage and budget. GivEnergy is our most popular for value. Tesla Powerwall for high-spec installs. Fox ESS for tight spaces. We'll model 2–3 options on your quote.
Can it keep my house running in a power cut?+
Yes, with an EPS-enabled install. We configure a backup circuit covering essentials (fridge, freezer, lights, broadband, boiler) — typically 8–24 hours runtime depending on battery size and load.
How long do batteries last?+
Modern LFP batteries are warrantied for 10 years / 6,000+ cycles to 70% capacity. Real-world expectations are 12–15 years with sensible cycling. Good batteries are no longer a wear item.
Will it work with my existing solar?+
Almost always. AC-coupled batteries (GivEnergy, Tesla, Sungrow) retrofit to any solar inverter — no need to replace your existing PV system.
