Overview

Eastern Electric delivered commercial EV charging infrastructure to support the electrification of a transport company's fleet operations in Scotland.

The project included the provision of a suitable grid connection and the installation of 18 × 200kW EV chargers, creating a high-capacity charging solution for a fleet environment.

This was not a domestic or workplace charging project. The scale of the installation required careful planning around electrical capacity, charger demand, vehicle movements, operational requirements and future fleet use.

The challenge

Fleet charging presents very different challenges from standard EV charger installations. A transport operator needs infrastructure that can support high vehicle demand, tight operating schedules and repeat daily use.
  • Providing sufficient electrical capacity for high-power EV charging
  • Supporting multiple 200kW chargers on a single site
  • Designing infrastructure suitable for transport operations
  • Allowing vehicles to charge around fleet schedules
  • A robust, scalable installation for depot use
  • Coordinating the grid connection required for the load

The solution

Eastern Electric provided the electrical infrastructure required to support a commercial EV charging installation consisting of 18 × 200kW chargers. A suitable grid connection was provided as part of the project, enabling the site to support the full charging capacity required for fleet operations.
  • Grid connection provision
  • High-capacity EV charging infrastructure
  • 18 × 200kW charger installation
  • Fleet charging requirements
  • Electrical distribution and protection
  • Practical installation for depot vehicle use
