Overview

Eastern Electric installed a complete domestic solar PV and battery storage system for a homeowner in Edinburgh.

The system included 13 × Longi Hi-MO X10 530W dual-glass bifacial solar panels, a 5kW myenergi libbi inverter, 10kWh of myenergi libbi battery storage, and a myenergi eddi immersion diverter.

The objective was to reduce the homeowner's electricity bills as close to zero as possible during the summer months — storing surplus solar in the battery, diverting excess energy into hot water once the battery was fully charged, and exporting only what was left after that.

The challenge

The homeowner wanted a complete, intelligent home energy system — not a basic solar PV installation. The property required panels across both a pitched slate roof and a flat roof area, which meant two different mounting approaches on a single project.

The solution

Eastern Electric designed and installed a 6.89kWp solar PV system using 13 × Longi Hi-MO X10 530W dual-glass bifacial panels — combined roof-mounted panels on the pitched slate roof with ballasted flat-roof mounting boxes on the flat roof section. The system was connected to a 5kW myenergi libbi inverter with 10kWh of libbi battery storage, plus a myenergi eddi immersion diverter to send surplus generation into the hot water cylinder once the battery was charged. Everything is controlled and monitored through the myenergi app.

During the summer months, the system is designed to significantly reduce grid electricity use by prioritising self-consumption. Solar generation is first used by the property, then stored in the battery, then diverted to hot water through the myenergi eddi — with excess exported only after those demands have been met.
